Creative Society

A choragus led the Creative Society every semester. Mars provided guidance, in this case to Rhiannion Cabaniss and Bradly Gill.

Mars Hall, Godfather of UAM’s Creative Society

Through the efforts of students and Gary Marshall (aka Mars Hall), UAM’s Creative Society started back in the 1990s.

By the mid-’00s, the Creative Society featured a bi-annual coffee house setting known as Mocha Madness, which provided students, faculty and community members an opportunity to perform original poetry, prose, music, etc.

With the help of Mars, Buck DeFee and Ron Sitton, the Creative Society started the Wandering Weevil Wheels, which brought bicycles to UAM’s campus. Anyone on campus could ride the bicycle and leave it for someone else at their next stop.

Getting involved in the campus community encourages everyone to meet people outside of the classroom setting. The bonds made in this environment encourage students to continue during tough times as they see someone who offers the extra smile to get them through the day.

Following Mars’ death, it’s unknown if the Creative Society continues. But hopefully, the spirit never dies.
