SGA Hosts Sweet Shoppe

March 3 was National I Want You to Be Happy Day. To celebrate, the University of Arkansas-Monticello’s Student Government Association held Sweet Shoppe in the University Center Green Room.

At the event, students walked, skipped, or danced down a yellow brick road lined by balloons, grabbed a brightly colored bag, and filled it with gummy bears, saltwater taffy, jelly beans, et cetera. Bright pink and turquoise decorated the shoppe. A giant sheet sign painted by Abel Yeakel ornamented the center of the room.

Allison Foret, a sophomore Education major at UAM, said, “I loved it because it was so colorful and happy. We’re all so stressed with being adults and taking care of our responsibilities that we lose sight of just having fun and acting like a child. And sometimes acting like a child is okay. My favorite part was skipping with my Grandlil Emily White down the yellow brick road.”

“The event was very fun, and it put me in a good mood. It was a good way to bring students together and be silly,” said Kelsey Schrimpf, a sophomore Criminal Justice major.

Foret and Schrimpf are 2 of over 150 students who attended the event.

According to Audrey Hepburn, “The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy – it’s all that matters.” The Sweet Shoppe commemorated this idea.
