Blossoms Downed By USC-Aiken In Pensacola

PENSACOLA, Florida – The University of Arkansas-Monticello’s women’s basketball team completed its participation in the University of West Florida Thanksgiving Invitational with a 57-43 loss to South Carolina-Aiken Saturday afternoon.

tv Sports reflection 10dbAfter trailing by 11 at halftime and by as much as 16 with 11 minutes remaining in the second half, the Blossoms (2-4) got to within six points at the 7:19 mark following a 10-0 run including a pair of three-pointers from junior Nikki Mullen.

The Pacers (3-3) outscored UAM 17-9 in the final seven minutes to seal the win.

The Blossoms finished the game shooting 33 percent from the field (15-for-46), 38 percent on three-pointers (6-for-16) and 58 percent on foul shots (7-for-12). The Pacers shot 44 percent from the field (23-for-52), 33 percent on three-pointers (7-for-21) and 44 percent on foul shots (4-for-9).

Mullen led UAM and tied USC-Aiken’s Mackenzie Reese for the game-high in scoring with 12 points. Junior Nelsha Peterson added eight points in 17 minutes off the bench.

UAM is back in action Thursday at Henderson State. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Arkadelphia.
