Hunter Smith Named GAC Golfer Of The Month

RUSSELLVILLE– University of Arkansas-Monticello junior Hunter Smith has been named the Great American Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month for turning in a pair of top five finishes during the month of October.

Smith becomes UAM’s first ever GAC golfer of the month honoree. The Little Elm, Texas averaged par in five rounds of golf during the month of October.

tv Sports reflection 10dbHe placed second out of 57 participants at The Buc Classic played in Southaven, Mississippi on October 6-7. There he posted a first round score of 72, but came back to shoot three under par at 69 in each of the final two rounds to finish just five strokes off the pace. He led the Weevils to a third place finish in that event out of nine teams.

Later in the month, Smith finished in a tie for fourth place out of 45 golfers at UAM’s Commercial Bank Fall Classic played in Cabot on October 20-21. He carded a first round score of 77, but improved by four strokes and three spots in the final standings with a 73 in the second and final round. He and Murray State College’s Andrew Grant finished just two strokes off the leader in that event.
