Women’s Basketball Picked 11th In GAC Preseason Poll

RUSSELLVILLE– The Great American Conference women’s basketball coaches have picked the University of Arkansas at Monticello to finish in 11th place in the 2014-15 season, announced Wednesday by the league office.

Harding received nine of the 11 first place votes to earn the top spot in the preseason poll. The Lady Bisons earned a total of 99 poll points, ahead of Arkansas Tech at 86, Southwestern Oklahoma State at 85, East Central at 58, Southeastern Oklahoma State at 58, Southern Nazarene at 53, Southern Arkansas at 50, Henderson State at 38, Ouachita Baptist at 37, Northwestern Oklahoma State at 24 and UAM at 17.

tv Sports reflection 10dbThe Blossoms finished the 2013-14 season with an overall record of 8-18 and a 4-16 mark in the GAC. The Blossoms won the final two games of the regular season, but fell short of reaching the league’s championship tournament.

UAM returns seven letter winners from last year’s squad, including starters Jordan Goforth, Nikki Mullen, Tamia Grady and Brandae Carroll. The Blossoms have four newcomers on the roster as well as Tori Nichols, who redshirted last year after transferring from fellow GAC member Southern Arkansas.

The 2014-15 season begins on Friday, November 14 with a road trip to St. Charles, Missouri to face off against Lindenwood before returning to Monticello for a three-game home stand. All roads lead to Bartlesville, Oklahoma once again for the GAC Championship Tournament March 5-8.
