MONTICELLO-The most successful football coach in the history of the University of Arkansas at Monticello was honored Saturday afternoon with the unveiling of a bronze bust of the late Tommy Barnes. The bust was created by nationally-renowned sculptor David Deming of Cleveland, Ohio and made possible by a gift from former Boll Weevil football standout Lance Gasaway of Star City. The bust is located in the lobby of UAM’s indoor practice facility and honors a man who coached more seasons and won more games than any Boll Weevil football coach in school history. Barnes was 69-53-1 in 12 seasons as head coach (1985-96) and led UAM to two appearances in the NAIA national playoffs as well as the 1993 Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championship.
