Owen Appointed To The UAM Board Of Visitors

MONTICELLO — A retired Monticello school teacher has been appointed by Governor Mike Beebe to the Board of Visitors at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Mellie Jo Owen, a 1972 UAM graduate and long-time elementary school teacher, was appointed to the board and will serve a three-year term. A native of Star City, Owen attended UAM from 1968-72 and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. She holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Owen taught elementary school in the Star City, Drew Central, and Monticello public schools before her retirement in 2002. She was selected Monticello’s teacher of the year in 1999. For more information, contact Jim Brewer, director of media services, at (870) 460-1274.
