Evans Leads UAM Volleyball To First GAC Win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Senior Tasha Evans accounted for 11 points to lead the University of Arkansas at Monticello to a three-set Great American tv Sports reflection 10dbConference sweep over Henderson State Tuesday night on the road.

Evans posted a career-high seven total blocks and also chipped in with seven kills as UAM (3-4, 1-1 GAC) defeated the Lady Reddies (1-8, 0-2 GAC) 25-13,25-13 and 25-18. The Blossoms posted a .266 hitting percentage with 33 kills and just eight errors on 94 total attacks.

On the other side of the net, HSU struggled with a negative percentage after netting 24 kills and 28 errors on a total of 113 swings.

UAM stayed above .300 in hitting in the first two sets to earn identical point victories. In the first set, UAM got on top 10 points at 20-10, which was quickly turned into 22-10 following three straight errors from HSU. More of the same in the second set, with the Blossoms pulling away late by the scoring the game’s final six points on the serve of junior Lani Kaiwi.

The Lady Reddies stayed within three points in the early part of the third set due in part to UAM’s worst hitting percentage of the night, but the Blossoms again separated themselves late, scoring five of the final six points to seal thesweep.

In addition to Evans’ performance, junior Sydni Schulz tied HSU’s Nayeli Colunga for the match-high with eight kills each. Schulz also added nine digs in the victory. True freshman Aubrey Harrison followed with six kills, while sophomore Kedra Johnson added five.

Senior Jessica Cuba posted her third straight double-digit performance in the assist category with a career-high 18. She also added nine digs and three kills. Junior Kaila Kikugawa earned her fourth double-double of the young season with 10 assists and a team-high 15 digs.

The Blossoms return to action next Tuesday, September 23 on the road against Southern Arkansas.
