Blossoms Wrap Up Non-Conference Games With Split

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Arkansas-Monticello’s softball team split its final non-conference games of the 2014 tv Sports reflection 10dbseason by recording a 3-1 win and a 6-3 loss against Delta State on the road Wednesday afternoon.

The Blossoms (26-24) started the double header by scoring all three runs oftheir 3-1 win on a pair of homeruns. Junior Sydney Tipton hit a solo shot to lead off the top of the second inning, and senior Channing Tharpe followed with a two-run blast in the top of the fourth inning.

The Lady Statesmen (22-22) scored their lone run in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Mariah Alvarez.

Senior Courtney Wilson (11-11) earned the complete-game victory, allowing one run off five hits with one strikeout and two walks.

In the second half of the double-header, the Lady Statesmen rallied for a four-run fourth inning to salvage the split, highlighted by three straight run-producing hits in the inning.

UAM opened the scoring on a sacrifice fly from freshman Korie Parker in the top of the second inning, which was answered in the bottom half of the inning on back-to-back RBI at bats from DSU’s Kara Lane Nowell and Andrea Cutts.

The Blossoms plated their final two runs of the day in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from sophomore Kali Piha and a sacrifice fly from senior Brittany Eitel.

Junior Katie Slaughter (14-11) took the loss after giving up six runs off 10 hits in the first four innings.

UAM is idle this weekend before closing out the 2014 regular season next Friday and Saturday, April 25-26 in a four-game Great American Conference against Northwestern Oklahoma State at home.
