Tech Takes Series, Weevils Fall 5-1

RUSSELLVILLE – The 17th-ranked University of Arkansas-Monticello’s baseball team suffered its second straight series loss following a 5-1tv Sports reflection 10db

   The Wonder Boys opened the scoring with a run in each of the third and fourth innings, before UAM cut the deficit in half on an RBI single by senior Alex Lang in the top of the fifth inning. ATU responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth on a double from Sage Boehner and a homerun later in the inning from Patrick Castleberry.

   UAM was held to three hits in the loss. In addition to Lang’s run-scoring hit in the fifth, junior Austin Braddock and senior Tyler Caruthers were responsible for UAM’s other two hits.

   Sophomore Zach McKnight (2-2) took the loss after giving up five runs off seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks in the first 4.2 innings. Aaron Johnson (4-2) earned the win for ATU, giving up one run off three hits with seven strikeouts in the first seven innings.

   The Weevils are back in action in the midweek to conclude the team’s current 10-game road stretch. The Weevils face Union University in Jackson, Tenn. Tuesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
