RUSSELLVILLE – University of Arkansas at Monticello senior center-fielder D’Marco Poindexter has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Week after tallying two game-winning hits and eight runs batted in over the past seven days.

Poindexter went 7-for-18 at the plate over the past week, which included UAM’s final two wins at Minute Maid Park and a double-header split with Minnesota State-Mankato this past Sunday at home. He had a weekly .389 batting average and a .611 slugging percentage.

The Springhill, La. native started his player of the week campaign with back-to-back game-winning hits last Monday and Tuesday at the Houston Astros Winter Invitational at Minute Maid Park. He went 1-for-5 in UAM’s 4-2 win over Central Missouri last Monday, but that one hit held on to be the game-winner. He smashed a two-run double in the top of the second inning to give UAM a 3-0 lead.

A day later at Minute Maid Park, Poindexter again was limited to just one hit, but it came in dramatic fashion with a three-run walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Weevils a 6-3 win over Henderson State.

This past Sunday, Poindexter registered multi-hit performances in each of UAM’s games against top-ranked MSU-Mankato. He went 2-for-5 in the first game with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, and followed that with a 3-for-4 outing in the second game. He had singles in each of his last three at bats, including run-producing hits in the fourth and fifth innings.
