Blossoms Set For 8-State Classic

BENTONVILLE – The University of Arkansas-Monticello’s softball team makes Bentonville, Arkansas its home away tv Sports reflection 10dbfrom home this weekend to participate in one the largest NCAA Division II softball classic in the country, this year featuring 29 teams from eight different states.

   The Cotton Blossoms, yearly hosts of this event along with the Bentonville Convention and Visitors Bureau, are set to play seven games Friday-Monday, Feb. 14-17, all at the Tiger Athletic Complex, the home of Bentonville High School’s softball team and the annual Great American Conference Softball Championship Tournament.

   There are 28 games scheduled per day Friday through Sunday with UAM playing two additional games Monday. In addition to the Tiger Athletic Complex, the tournament will also be played on six fields at Bentonville’s Memorial Park.

   UAM opens up against William Jewel (Mo.) Friday morning at 11:30 a.m., and later faces Nebraksa-Kearney at 1:30 p.m. The Blossoms have just one game lined up for Saturday, an 11:30 a.m. matchup with Upper Iowa. On Sunday, UAM faces Fort Hays State (Kan.) at 11:30 a.m. and Southwest Baptist (Mo.) at 1:30 p.m. UAM and Minnesota-Duluth close out the event Monday with a double header starting at noon.

   The 8-State Classic began five years ago with teams from three states, and has grown by at least one state each year. The field this year includes nine teams from Missouri, six teams from Oklahoma, five teams from Arkansas, three teams from Kansas, two teams from Illinois and Minnesota and one team each from Nebraska and Iowa.
