MONTICELLO — Kiara Newhouse of McGehee became the 75th homecoming queen of the University of Arkansas at Monticello when she was crowned during pregame ceremonies Saturday afternoon at Convoy Leslie-Cotton Boll Stadium.

Newhouse is the daughter of Doran and Jennifer Newhouse and is a junior biology and premed major. She is a member of the UAM marching band, symphonic band and concert choir and is the vice president of Kappa Kappa Psi honorary band fraternity. Newhouse was chosen by a vote of the UAM student body.

UAM first observed homecoming on November 27, 1924 when the school was known as Arkansas A&M but did not select a homecoming queen until 1935 when Jane Tonry of Warren was chosen as the first queen. No queen was chosen in 1936 and two were selected in 1946 and 1959.
