Blossoms Battle In Four-Set To Southern Nazarene

MONTICELLO – Visiting Southern Nazarene totaled a .260 team hitting percentage and collected 15 total blocks to defeat the University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team in four sets on Saturday inside Steelman Field House. Final game scores were 22-25, 21-25, 25-16 and 20-25.

The Blossoms (12-14, 2-8 Great American Conference) held the lead for the majority of the first and second sets, but the Crimson Storm (18-7, 8-1 GAC) posted runs in each set to take a two-set advantage. SNU closed out the first set with a 10-3 run after trailing by three points, and responded late in the second set with a 9-2 to grab the come-from-behind win.

The Blossoms controlled the third set, collected 13 kills and just five errors for a .296 percentage, while SNU was limited to eight kills in the set. Down 7-3 in the fourth set, UAM rallied with five straight points to take the lead, but the Storm responded with eight of the next 12 points to regain the advantage.

Senior Tori Bozzo led the Blossoms with her third straight double-double and eight overall this season with 11 kills and a team-high 15 digs. Junior Jessica Cuba added nine kills and senior Holly Schweigert had seven.

Senior setter Amy Bazemore had exactly 30 assists in the loss, marking her second straight to reach the 30-assist level and seventh time this season.

Taylor Jacobs led SNU with 19 kills.

The Blossoms are back in action on Tuesday, October 29 at home against Arkansas Tech. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
