Jandotti Breaks Blocking Record In 3-1 Loss To SAU

tv Sports reflection 10dbMONTICELLO – Junior Gabriella Jandotti broke the University of Arkansas at Monticello and Great American Conference single-match records with eight block solos in a 3-1 loss to Southern Arkansas at home on Thursday night. Final scores were 25-17, 23-25, 21-25 and 19-25.

   Jandotti also added a block assist in the loss for a total of nine blocks in the match, which ties for fourth in the school’s record book and fifth on the GAC’s single-match chart. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native was responsible for all but two of UAM’s 11 team blocks in the loss.

   The Blossoms (5-9, 0-3 GAC) started strong, hitting .275 in the opening setwith 14 kills and only three errors. UAM dropped to .150 in the second set and .111 in the third set to give SAU a 2-1 advantage heading in the fourth set.

   Each team hit well in the final set (.333 for UAM, .320 for SAU), but UAM’s four service errors led to a 47 percent success rate on side outs in the final frame. UAM totaled 10 service errors in the loss.

   UAM finished the match hitting .206 as a team with 51 kills and 19 errors on 155 attempts. SAU (8-4, 2-1 GAC) finished at .215 with 55 kills and 23 errors on 149 attempts.

   The Blossoms were led by senior Tori Bozzo’s first double-double of the season with a match-high 13 kills and a team-high 17 digs. She only committed fourerrors on 35 swings for a .257 individual hitting percentage. Her 17 digs marks a new career-high.

   UAM placed two others in double-digits offensively with juniors Christina Rini and Jessica Cuba totaling 10 kills each. Cuba added 16 digs in the loss for her third double-double of the season.

   Senior Amy Bazemore aided the UAM offense with 23 digs, her 11th match of the season with at least 20 assists, while senior Haley Goldwater added 19.

   The Lady Muleriders finished with three players in double-digits offensively with Logan Tolbert leading the way with 13 kills.

   The Blossoms step out of the conference portion of the schedule this Saturday, Sept. 28 for a tri-match against Central Baptist and Lyon College in Batesville, Ark.
