OBU Erases 2-0 Deficit For Five-Set Win Over UAM

tv Sports reflection 10dbMONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team let a two-set lead slip away as the Ouachita Baptist Lady Tigers stormed out of the intermission with three straight wins to record afive-set victory on Tuesday night inside Steelman Field House. Final game scores were 25-23, 25-17, 17-25, 12-25 and 13-15.

   The Blossoms (5-8, 0-2 Great American Conference) started fast with 12 kills and only four errors in the first set and took advantage of OBU’s negative hitting in the second set to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

   UAM’s team hitting percentage declined steadily throughout the first four sets, dropping to .062 in the second set, .023 in the third set and negative .088 in the fourth set. In the final frame, UAM jumped back in the positive at .190with seven kills and three errors, but the Lady Tigers (8-1, 2-0 GAC) turned in 10 kills and four errors on 22 attempts for a .273 fifth-set percentage.

   OBU finished the match hitting .153 to UAM’s .072.

   Senior Tori Bozzo led the Blossoms with her seventh double-digit performance of the season with 11 kills on 27 attempts with just three errors for a team-high .296 percentage. Juniors Tasha Evans and Jessica Cuba followed with nine kills, while junior Christina Rini added eight. For Evans, her nine kills ties a career-high. Cuba finished one kill away from a double-double after also adding 10 digs in the loss.

   Senior Tusalava Kuaea paced the back row with 16 digs. UAM totaled 11 blocks in the loss, led by junior Gabriella Jandotti’s four block solos and two block assists for a career high six total blocks.

   UAM’s offensive attack was aided by a two-setter system led by senior Amy Bazemore with 22 assists, her 10th match of at least 20 assists this season. Senior Haley Goldwater added 19 assists.

   OBU was led by Kelley Ballard with 11 kills.
