Men’s Golf Opens Season At GAC Preview

tv Sports reflection 10dbOKLAHOMA CITY – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s golf team opened the 2013-14 season this past Sunday-Tuesday with an eighth place finish at the Great American Conference Preview Tournament held at the Lake Hefner Golf Club in Oklahoma City, Okla.

   The Weevils were led by a pair of top 20 finishers in Ari Magnusson and Hunter Smith. Magnusson tied for 13th place with scores of 71, 75 and 71 for a three-round total of 217. Smith finished in 16th place with scores of 73, 70 and 75. His second round score of 70 was the lowest round score on the team.

   William Trawick and Bryan Witmer tied for 32nd with a three-round total of 227 each. Theodor Karlsson rounded out the UAM field with a 41st place finish at three-round total of 229.

   As a team, UAM totaled a three-day score of 887, five strokes behind seventh place finisher East Central and 45 strokes ahead of ninth place finisher Northwestern Oklahoma State.

   Harding finished as the top team at 863, followed by Southeaster Oklahoma State at 867, host Southern Nazarene and Henderson State at 869, Arkansas Tech at 871 and Southwestern Oklahoma State at 875.

   Southern Nazarene’s Michael Hearne was the top individual finisher with a three-round total of 203. Hearne finished below 70 in his final two rounds, including a weekend-low 62 in the third round.

   UAM returns to the links Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Texoma Fall Classic in Kingston, Okla. at the Chickasaw Pointe Golf Resort.
