Blossoms Sweep Past McKendree

tv Sports reflection 10dbPENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team evened its overall record at 2-2 following a three-set sweep over McKendree in the final match of the University of West Florida Opening Weekend Tournament.

   Final game scores were 25-20, 25-18 and 25-22. The sweep marks UAM’s first three-set victory since a sweep of Henderson State on September 25, 2012.

   Senior Tori Bozzo picked up her third double-digit performance of the season in leading UAM with 13 kills. She committed just four errors on 24 attempts for a match-best .375 hitting percentage.

   Junior Jessica Cuba added eight kills on 21 attempts with just three errors for a .238 percentage. She also added eight digs in the win. Senior Tusalava Kuaea paced the UAM defense with 11 digs.

   Senior Amy Bazemore tallied 28 assists for her second straight match with at least 20 in that category.

   UAM posted above .200 hitting percentages in two of the three sets in Saturday’s win. The team started the match at .182 in the first set, followed with a match-best .222 percentage in the second set and wrapped up the win at .206 in the third set.

   The Blossoms return to Monticello and are set to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday, Sept. 10 in the first home match of the 2013 season. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
