MONTICELLO — University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball coach Tanya Ray has announced the hiring of Roman Tubner as the program’s new full-time assistant coach.

Tubner takes on the new role after serving the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for the UAM men’s basketball program under head coach Allen Sharpe. While serving the men’s basketball squad, Tubner assisted in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, on-court instruction, operations and student-athlete academic development.

“I am very excited to bring Roman into our program,” said Ray. “His experience, knowledge and will to win are all great qualities that I was looking for in an assistant coach. He has proven himself these past two years working with our men’s team, so I know he has what it takes to help bring our women’s program to the next level.”

The Montgomery, Ala. native came to UAM in 2011 after three years of playing experience at Centenary College of Louisiana, which at the time, was a member of the NCAA Division I Summit League. Prior to Centenary, Tubner lettered one year at Marion Military Institute after finishing his high-school career atMontgomery (Ala.) Catholic Preparatory School.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity to join the UAM women’s basketball program,” said Tubner. “I want to thank Coach Ray for believing in me and trusting me to help take this team to new levels. When Coach Ray offered me the job, I had no doubt that this position was right for me. I am excited to begin this new chapter of my life.”

Tubner received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Centenary College in May of 2011 and a master’s degree in physical education and coaching from UAM in December of 2012.
