Southeastern Gets Past UAM In GAC Tournament

tv_sports 10dbBENTONVILLE – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team fell into the loser’s bracket of the 2013 Great American Conference Championship Tournament with a 5-3 loss to No. 1 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State in the late hours of Thursday evening and the first hour of Friday morning.

   Southeastern (42-7) opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back run-producing fielder’s choice groundouts from Courtney Moore and Whitney Hamilton. The Savage Storm finalized its scoring with on a three-run double from Riddle. All three runs were unearned due to a UAM fielding error earlier in the inning.

   UAM (29-24) scored its three runs on back-to-back doubles in the top of the fourth inning from sophomore Sydney Tipton and freshman Cassidy Wilson.

   Senior Randa Perry (12-12) suffered the loss after allowing five runs (two earned) off eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk in a complete-game effort. Mindy McElroy (19-2) earned the win for Southeastern in relief, keeping UAM scoreless on just one hit with four strikeouts in the final 3.1 innings.

   UAM falls into the loser’s bracket and will face off against No. 7 seed Ouachita Baptist on Friday, April 26 at 11 a.m., weather permitting.
