tv_Around Campus 10dbMONTICELLO-The Intramural department is hosting the 23rd annual Mud Olympics Tuesday, April 23 in conjunction with the Crawfish Boil. The first event starts at 3:30 p.m. at the mud pit southwest of the Red Barn.

Any current UAM student, faculty or staff member can sign up for a team to compete. Teams need to consist of a minimum of six members and a maximum of eight with at least three being women.

Winning teams of each event get T-shirts and the team that wins the most events gets another T-shirt. Events in the Mud Olympics comprise of slippy slide, egg-n-spoon relay, crab walk relay, bucket fill relay, piggy back relay, wheelbarrow relay and volleyball.

Intramural Director Julie Gentry said, “The students are competitive and they wanna win but they laugh and have fun at the same time.”

Shawn Leopard, captain of the best overall team in 2011, said the competition the year his team won was intense but his team really stepped up.

Teams must turn in their entry forms by 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 23. Teams can turn in forms late until 3:15 p.m. of that day only if space is still available. Teams can pick forms up in the intramural and student health services offices.

Gentry said spectators usually fill the bleachers each year. She said last year’s Mud Olympics got rained out so this is the first one since fall semester of 2011.

Gentry said, “My favorite part of Mud Olympics is the fun the students have because it takes them back to when they were kids.”
