MONTICELLO — Gregoria Garcia of Monticello, a sophomore pre-law student at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been chosen as a national scholarship recipient by the American Association of University Women to attend the AAUW’s National Conference for College Women Student Leaders at the University of Maryland-College Park May 30 – June 1.

The conference brings together college women to address important and contemporary leadership issues and prepares students to enact change on their campuses and in their communities.

An advocate of immigration law reform, Garcia is currently conducting supervised research regarding the admission of undocumented students to colleges and universities both in Arkansas and nationwide.  She is the first UAM student to attend the AAUW conference since UAM became a university partner with the organization.

Garcia serves as secretary of UAM’s Law and Justice Society and was named to the 2012 Chancellor’s List.
