MONTICELLO— Two University of Arkansas at Monticello students have received scholarships from Alpha Chi, the national collegiate honor society.
Kelly Reed of Bentonville, a senior political science and communication major, has been awarded the Alfred H. Nolle Scholarship for senior-year undergraduate study. The $1,500 award is named for Alfred Nolle, who served as secretary-treasurer of Alpha Chi for 41 years. Reed is a member of Pi Kappa Delta forensics honor society, the Debate Society, is president of the UAM Law and Justice Society, and has been named to the Chancellor’s List for academic excellence.
Roy Wisecarver of Crossett, a senior majoring in political science and history, has been selected to receive the H.Y. Benedict Fellowship for graduate study. The Benedict Fellowship, worth$2,500, is named for Harry Benedict, Alpha Chi’s first president, and is to be used for the first year of graduate study toward a master’s, doctor’s, or professional degree. Wisecarver is president of the UAM chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, and was honored for presenting the best undergraduate paper at a Phi Alpha Theta regional conference. He was been named to both the Dean’s List and the Chancellor’s List.
