Ramsey Douglas of Altheimer and Katie Meier and Jennifer Escamilla of Monticello will hold a joint reception April 24 from 1-2 p.m. in the Spencer Gallery to open their exhibitions. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibitions are free and open to the public.

Douglas’s paintings are inspired by imagery from vivid dreams. Sharks, clown fish, coral and umbrellas are some of the images Douglas uses. She also incorporates the theme of water in various states, such as the ocean, rain and tears.

Meier embellishes subjects found in fashion magazines, adding flowers and floral elements to her paintings. By exploring portraiture and using simple backgrounds, she compares and contrasts the beauty of the feminine with the beauty of nature.

Escamilla uses oil and water color to create landscape paintings, exploring how shape, light and color are used to create atmospheric perspective.
