MONTICELLO- A University of Arkansas-Monticello professor plans to give his “Last Lecture.”

Ron Sitton, associate professor of Journalism at UAM, will be the speaker at this semester’s “Last Lecture,” an event held by the Journalism Club. The event, which will take place April 18 at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Classroom Building on the UAM campus in Monticello, will help the club raise money. Admission is $2 for a student with a UAM I.D., and $4 for the general public. Anyone who brings a canned good gets a $1 off admission. All canned goods will be donated to local food pantries.

Sitton’s “Last Lecture” is titled “A Last Lecture: The Education of a Red-headed Stepchild.” He said while he will talk about some communication principles, he will also touch on many different topics and experiences in his life.

“It has been tough to decide what to leave in and what to leave out,” Sitton said.

He also said he hopes to provide those in attendance a different prospective on life.

“Maybe they can find things to apply to their own life by seeing how I have approached mine and seeing some of the mistakes I’ve made,” Sitton said.

The Journalism Club has held the Last Lecture Series eight times, with Sitton being the ninth. He has been a professor at UAM since 2004, however, this will be his last semester at UAM.

Sitton said he feels this chance to speak will be a good way to say goodbye and to look back on where he has been.

“I believe reflection helps us grow,” Sitton said. “If I’ve helped people achieve their dreams, then my time here was not wasted.”
