Blossoms Drop Two At Arkansas Tech

tv_sports 10dbRUSSELLVILLE — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team suffered two Great American Conference losses to Arkansas Tech on Sunday on the road by final scores of 8-0 and 3-2.

   The Cotton Blossoms (21-19, 8-10 GAC) were limited to just three hits in the first game, while ATU (22-17, 15-11 GAC) totaled 10 hits and scored two runs in each of the final four innings.

   Senior Randa Perry (8-11) took the loss after allowing four runs off five hits in the first four innings of the game. ATU’s Victoria Huie (12-9) earned the complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits with no strikeouts and three walks in six innings of work.

   In the second game, UAM plated two unearned runs off an ATU error in the top of the first inning following back-to-back infield hits from senior Maggie Sands and junior Brittany Eitel, but the Golden Suns answered in the bottom half of the frame with a two-run homerun from Siarra Gomez.

   ATU scored the go-ahead and final run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Amy Kilpatrick.

   Sophomore Katie Slaughter (10-6) took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) off seven hits with two strikeouts in the full six innings. Rachel Keeton (3-5) earned the complete-game win after allowing two unearned runs off five hits with two strikeouts and five walks.

   UAM is set to take a mid-week trip to Cleveland, Miss. this upcoming Wednesday, April 10 to face off against Delta State in a non-conference double header starting at 2 p.m.
