UAM Library To Host Two Authors’ Lectures As Part Of National Library Week

MONTICELLO — The Taylor Library and Technology Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello will sponsor the presentations of two authors for National Library Week.

   Mark Spencer, dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, will speak April 16 from 12:40 to 1:30 p.m. in Library Conference Room A. Diane Payne, director of the master of fine arts in creative writing program, will speak April 18 from 12:40 to 1:30 p.m. in the Library Director’s Conference Room.

   Spencer is the author of the novels The Masked Demon, Love and Reruns in Adams County, Wedlock, and The Weary Motel. Spencer has also authored two nonfiction books, Images of America: Monticello and A Haunted Love Story, as well as numerous short stories.

   Payne is the author of Burning Tulips , A New Kind of Music, and the recently released Freedom’s Just Another Word. She has been published in hundreds of literary journals, including New Verse News, Slow Trains, Word Riot, 3 am, Failbetter, Small Spiral Notebook, Pindelboyz, Christian Science Monitor, In These Times and elsewhere.

   The Taylor Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week April 14 – 20. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association(ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
