RUSSELLVILLE— Senior starting pitcher Chris Guzman was named the Great American Conference Pitcher of the Week Tuesday after tossing one of two complete-game victories for UAM in this past weekend’s series against Harding.

Guzman (1-1) recorded UAM’s second straight complete-game victory Sunday in a 12-1 victory over the Bisons on the road to give his squad a 2-1 series win. The El Paso, Texas native allowed no earned runs off just four hits with six strikeouts and no walks in seven innings of work.

It was Guzman’s first complete-game win of his UAM career. He continued the streak of productive outings from UAM starting pitchers against Harding. The Boll Weevils only had to go the bullpen once during the three-game series. Starters Bobby Bryan, Logan Johnson and Guzman combined for 21.1 innings of work out of the 23 innings against the Bisons.

Johnson also tossed a complete-game, allowing just one run off four hits with four strikeouts in a 4-1 win over Harding Saturday.

Guzman and the Boll Weevils return to GAC action this weekend in Ada, Okla. for a three-game series against East Central University.
