tv_sports 10dbMONTICELLO— The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team secured a three-game Great American Conference sweep by recording a pair of walk-off wins over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday at home. Final scores were 8-6 and 10-9.

The Boll Weevils (7-3, 3-0 GAC) started the day using a two-out, full-count, two-run homerun from junior Ben Agredano in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Rangers (6-4, 0-3 GAC) in a game that was suspended after eight full innings on Friday due to darkness. Agredano’s round tripper also scored junior Alex Lang, who picked up a two-out single in the previous at bat.

Senior Eddie Smith (1-1) earned the win, allowing only two hits in the final three innings, while striking out two and walking none. NWOSU’s Grant Mason (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs off two hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

UAM finalized the sweep in the series finale with a bases loaded single from senior Hunter Allday in the bottom of the ninth off the right center field fence to score senior Taylor Eaves, who singled earlier in the inning. Eaves tied the game earlier in the inning with an RBI single scoring junior pinch hitter Ray Johnson, who doubled to center to lead off the inning.

The Rangers broke an 8-all tie in the top of the ninth on an RBI sacrifice fly from Nathaneal Hancock.

NWOSU opened the game’s scoring on an RBI single from Camilo Baldelomar in the top of the first inning and took a 3-0 lead in the third on back-to-back run producing at bats from Jarad Moore and Trevor Long.

UAM answered in the bottom of the third with back-to-back homeruns from Agredano and sophomore Bronson Gillam. Agredano’s shot also scored Lang, who singled to lead off the inning. Gilliam’s was a solo shot to tie the score at 3-all.

The Rangers tallied another three-run rally in the fourth on an RBI single from Moore and a two-RBI single from Long.

UAM got to within one run in the fifth taking advantage of a NWOSU fielding error and using an RBI groundout from junior D’Marco Poindexter. The Boll Weevils tied the score at 6-all in the bottom of the sixth on an sacrifice fly from senior Danny Loya to score Gilliam, who singled earlier in the inning.

The score remained tied in the next inning with both teams pushing across two runs. UAM went to the long ball again to keep on pace with NWOSU, using a two-run homerun from Eaves to knot the score at eight runs each.

Senior Brent Noble (2-0) earned the win in relief, allowing one run off four hits with two strikeouts and no walks in the final three innings. NWOSU’s Dakota McNair (1-0) took the loss after allowing both UAM runs in the ninth.

The three-game conference sweep gives UAM a six-game winning streak, its longest winning streak since the 2010 season, which was also when UAM last went 3-0 to start the conference portion of the schedule.

The Boll Weevils conclude their seven-game home stand this Tuesday, Feb. 19 with a single non-conference game against Lyon College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Weevils Field.
