tv_News 10dbMONTICELLO – A new restaurant recently opened in Monticello.

Bubbie’s, located at 157 North Park Drive behind Popeyes, is now open Monday-Thursday 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 10:30 a.m.–10 p.m.

“The name Bubbie came about when one of our youngest daughter’s best friends, Ashley Tiner Weast, who is a current student at the university, decided she was tired of being an only child. And, since I’m an only child also, she decided we were going to be “siblings,” so she started calling me Bubbie,” Wayne Harrison said, owner and operator of Bubbie’s. “We decided to open in Monticello because it has been home for us for over 17 years.”

Bubbie’s serves burgers, po-boys, shrimp, wings, chicken strips, salads, cheese dip, gumbo and etouffee.

“We want to provide a family-friendly eating atmosphere for the people of Monticello and surrounding areas that offers different menu options,” said Harrison.

Kelly Reed, a political science and communication major, said overall she likes Bubbie’s.

“I like the emphasis they place on using fresh ingredients. But, I think they’re a little too expensive to eat at often,” Reed said.

Bubbie’s also has a student discount Monday through Friday for 10 percent off a meal. Students must show their student ID before ordering. Bubbie’s allows one discount per student and not on discounted items.
