tv_News 10dbMONTICELLO – University of Arkansas-Monticello students elected a new Student Government Association president this year.

Samantha Montgomery, a political science major and SGA president, was born in Pine Bluff to Don and Alisa Montgomery. Montgomery currently resides in Woodlawn.

Montgomery said she led the Student Activities Board as chairman last year, and was involved in student government in high school from seventh to twelfth grade.

Montgomery has been on Dean’s List and Chancellor’s list for several semesters. She said she was a delegate for the state of Arkansas for student government. She received the award for the “Best Overall Bill,” and from there the bill was sent to the governor’s desk. She was also nominated to the UAM Homecoming court twice.

“Samantha is a very determined and passionate young lady when it comes to issues she feels strongly about,” said Brittney Harding, a senior exercise science major.

Montgomery said she plans to improve the lighting around campus. She also said she encourages students to become more involved in activities on campus and in student government.

“I also want to create better communication between the students and the administration. Student government also inducted 17 new senators to help get the students’ voice heard,” Montgomery said.

The SGA currently includes a female president and an all female council.
