OBU Uses Second-Half Surge To Down Blossoms, 82-65

tv Sports reflection 10dbMONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team was outscored 49-32 in the second half in an 82-65 loss to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday at home inside Steelman Fieldhouse.

   After a back-and-forth first half that featured seven tie scores and nine lead changes, the Lady Tigers (6-1, 4-0 Great American Conference) used a 13-0 run over three minutes to take an eight-point lead at the 13:29 mark.

   After getting back to within five points on a three-pointer from freshman Donlicia James at the 11:40 mark, OBU posted another big scoring run, this time an 11-0 spurt to grab a 16-point lead with just under nine minutes remaining.

   OBU held at least a 13-point lead throughout the remainder of the contest.

   As a team, UAM (2-6, 0-4 GAC) shot 39 percent from the field (23-of-59), 38 percent on three-pointers (3-of-8) and 73 percent on foul shots (16-of-22). OBU shot 44 percent from the field (28-of-63), 29 percent on three-pointers (7-of-24) and 76 percent on foul shots (19-of-25).

   UAM placed four scorers in double-digits, led by Donlicia James’ 15 points. Sophomore Catherine Puckett had 14, senior Candace Virgadamo had 13 and freshman Jordan Goforth added 11. Goforth led the team with eight rebounds.

   OBU’s Monica Williams led all players with 31 points and 19 rebounds. Nashia James and Kendra Coyle also reached double-digits with 18 and 10 points, respectively.

   The Cotton Blossoms step out of non-conference action on Dec. 18 on the road against Northeastern State. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in Tahlequah, Okla.
