The University of Arkansas Monticello’s rodeo team competed in its third rodeo of the season Oct. 11-13 at the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Ala.

Both the men’s and women’s team competed in the rodeo, with the men finishing seventh place with a total of 205 points and the women finishing second with 225 points.

Rusty Jones, head coach of the team, said he felt the team performed well, but he knows they are still capable of even more.

"I was real pleased with the kids this weekend," Jones said. "I am really excited about our possibilities this year."

Some of the notable individual performances by UAM include:

  • Senior Eric Manos placed first in steer wrestling.
  • Both UAM seniors Katie Shaw and Carson Kreider tied for fifth in goat tying.
  • Senior Casey Parr took second in breakaway roping.
  • Senior Colton Kreider finished fifth in steer wrestling.

Shaw, senior member of the team, said she felt the team preformed very well in its third outing of the semester.

"I was proud of our team’s overall performance at UWA," Shaw said. " Both our women’s and men’s team really came together and put on a stellar performance."

The team will be back in action Oct. 25-27 when they travel to Magnolia for a rodeo at Southern Arkansas University.
